Mr. Charles E. Moorer, Jr.

Band Director

Mr. Charles E. Moorer Jr. is a native of Belle Glade, Florida. He’s a graduate of Glades Central Community High School where he participated in all of the band activities/functions. He served as Band Captain and received numerous awards under the direction of his mentor Mr. Willie Pyfrom.

After High School, Mr. Moorer attended Florida A&M University where he majored in Music Education. There he studied tuba with the late Professor Charles S. Bing and Mr. Anthony Simons. He studied Conducting/Instrumental Methods with Dr. Shelby Chipman and Dr. Julian E. White. During his studies there he was presented many opportunities to perform and travel. Performances such as the 48th Annual Grammy’s Award (with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx) in Los Angeles, California, three Super Bowl performances and was appointed “Principal Chair” in the 2009 National Intercollegiate Band in Phoenix, Arizona. He received numerous awards during his time “On The Hill”. (Most Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore, Section Leader, etc.)

Upon completion of his Bachelor’s Degree, Mr. Moorer was offered the Band Director position at his High School Alma Mater. He proudly accepted the job and served as Director of Bands for six years. During his time there, the band was featured on National Television 4 times (one performance includedThe Ellen DeGeneres Show).  Mr. Moorer received his Masters degree from The Florida State University, completing his degree studying abroad in London, England.  Charles is beyond excited to continue his musical journey with the Mustangs. After taking the reins as Director of Bands of the McArthur High School Band Program, Mr. Moorer will continue the tradition of excellence established by his predecessors. He has kept the pride alive by leading the McA Marching Band to a “Superior” rating at the 2016 Marching Music Performance Assessment. Mr. Moorer holds membership in several professional organizations and societies: Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Broward Music Education Association (BMEA), Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Delta Kappa International Professional Educators Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated
